Let me start by saying this:
I am not out here trying to win Pinterest Mom of the Year. But my friend Pamela is! Look at her cute and fun craft she did with her grandkids!
This cute garden walkway lights project is:
✔️ Easy
✔️ Cheap
✔️ Actually turns out cute
And most importantly…
✔️ Keeps the kids busy for more than 10 minutes
These DIY garden walkway lights?
Yeah. This is one of those projects. The kids will love and your walkway will too!
🌈 The Before (aka: Random Stuff + Mild Doubt)
We started with some simple globes and solar light stakes. Nothing fancy. Nothing expensive. We washed our globes and allowed them to dry first.

At this point, you might be thinking:
“How is this going to turn into something cute?”
Same. I was also skeptical. 😅But oh, it does!
🎨 Let the Kids Go Wild (Within Reason)
This is where the magic happens… and by magic, I mean controlled chaos with paint.
We used:
- Bright, fun colors of apple barrel paints or whatever you have on hand
- Polka dots (because apparently that’s the official kid-approved design)
- solar lights with changing color lights
And here’s the best part:
👉 Only ONE coat of paint
That’s it. No overthinking. No perfection. Just paint it, let the kids paint it and move on with your life.

🔧 Putting It All Together

Once the paint dried, we added:
👉 One coat of clear coat (because weather exists and we’d like these to last longer than a week)
Then flipped the globes and placed them right on top of the solar light stakes. Put some gorilla glue or crazy glue to glue the lights to the globes and hold their spot.
No complicated tools.
No engineering degree required.

🌿 The Finished Look (And Honestly… I’m Impressed)

And just like that…
You’ve got colorful, whimsical garden lights that make your walkway look like you actually planned your landscaping.
During the day? Cute.
At night? Glowy, color changing and magical.
And the kids?
Very proud of themselves, which is honestly the best part.
🙌 Why This Project Is a Win
Let’s recap why this one is worth your time:
✔️ Super inexpensive
✔️ Kid-friendly (aka not stressful)
✔️ Minimal supplies
✔️ Fast — no 87-step process
✔️ Actually looks good outside
And again, because it deserves repeating:
👉 One coat of paint + one coat of sealant + polka dots
We are not doing extra work here.
😏 Final Thoughts
If you’re looking for a simple way to:
- Get your kids off screens
- Add some personality to your yard
- Feel slightly productive without exhausting yourself
- Give your yard a boost all the while enjoying the kids/grands!
This is it.
No complicated instructions.
No expensive supplies.
No regrets when it’s done.
Just a fun, colorful project that turns into something you’ll actually use.
Let’s learn about our new content creator Pamela!

More about Pam!
Pamela is the kind of woman who turns ordinary afternoons into lasting memories. A proud mom and even prouder grandmother, she has built her life around the simple joy of being present for the people she loves most. Her home is often filled with laughter, a little bit of glitter, and the unmistakable hum of creativity at work. She has a special gift for crafting—not just in the projects she makes, but in the experiences she creates. Whether it’s painting, creating, or inventing something entirely new from a box of odds and ends, Pamela brings her grandchildren alongside her, teaching them that creativity isn’t about perfection—it’s about joy. To her, every handmade card or slightly crooked project is a treasure because of the memories attached. More than anything, Pam values connection. She uses crafting as a way to slow down, bond, and show her grandchildren just how loved they are. In her world, the messier the table, the fuller the heart.
