If you’ve got vintage teacups collecting dust (or snagged a few from the thrift store), it’s time to turn them into something magical. These melt-and-pour coconut and paraffin wax candles are budget-friendly, beginner-friendly, and totally giftable. Plus, they look way fancier than they cost.

🧂 Supplies You’ll Need
- Coconut and paraffin wax blend (for a clean, slow burn)
- Teacups (ceramic or porcelain, heat-safe)
- Wicks (pre-tabbed cotton or wood)
- Fragrance oil or essential oil (optional but delightful)
- Double boiler or microwave-safe bowl
- Wick stickers or hot glue (I used clothespins)
- Chopsticks or wick holders
- Thermometer (optional but helpful)
🧠 Why the blend? Coconut wax burns clean and slow, while paraffin gives you that classic candle finish and scent throw. Together, they’re a dream team.
🔥 Step-by-Step Instructions
- Prep your teacups Clean and dry them thoroughly. Use wick stickers (mine came with this) or a dab of hot glue to secure the wick to the bottom center of each cup.
- Melt the wax Use a 70/30 blend of paraffin to coconut wax. Melt in a double boiler or microwave in 30-second bursts, stirring between rounds. Aim for about 170°F.

- Add fragrance Once melted, remove from heat and stir in fragrance oil (about 1 oz per pound of wax). Let it cool slightly to around 150°F before pouring. If you wait until the wax begins to turn white you have waited too long. I ended up choosing not to add scents because I have dogs and couldn’t figure out which one to use that didn’t hurt my dogs (and I’m very proactive and protective on this!)
- Pour into teacups Carefully pour the wax into each cup, holding the wick upright with chopsticks or a wick holder. Leave about ½ inch from the rim.
- Let it set Allow candles to cool and harden for 4–6 hours. Trim the wick to about ¼ inch.
- Decorate or gift Tie a ribbon around the handle, add a tag, or wrap in cellophane for gifting. Or just light it and bask in your crafty brilliance.

💡 Tips & Tricks
- Use white paraffin for a clean look or dyed wax for a pop of color.
- Add dried herbs or flower petals on top before the wax sets for a rustic vibe.
- If the wax sinks near the wick as it cools, do a second pour to smooth it out.
