Why I’m Craving a Stereo, Antenna TV, and a Life Beyond Monthly Fees
Remember when you could turn on the radio, watch TV, and listen to music without a monthly bill attached to it? I do. And lately, I’ve been wondering… when did everything start costing $29.99 a month?

Because somewhere between Spotify “premium,” Netflix “plus,” and Disney+ “ad-free,” I realized something — we’ve been quietly trained to rent our lives instead of owning anything.
🎵 Give Me a Stereo, Not a Stream
I used to think streaming music was the best thing ever. Every song ever made, right in my pocket. But now? I’m paying for it every month, and if I stop, poof — my playlists disappear into the ether.

My old school stereo gathering dust in the garage. We are about to move it into the living room.
Meanwhile, my old-school stereo just sits there waiting for me. No login. No algorithm judging my mood. Just me, my CDs, and a little static when I tune the radio. There’s something magical about that. I don’t have to “connect to Bluetooth.” I just hit play.
Owning my music again feels… freeing. Did you know you can buy cd’s at Goodwill for .99? I’ve been rebuying all my old faves!
📺 Antenna TV: The Comeback Kid
You know what else I’m done with? Paying for 12 streaming services just to watch the same three shows. Between the ads, price hikes, and endless “who’s got the rights this month” shuffle — it’s exhausting.
So, I grabbed two good old-fashioned antennas (one for each tv in my house). Guess what? I get all the major channels, local news, weather, and bonus: retro TV marathons that make me smile.

No buffering. No new app interface every month. Just television that works.

Plus, I have so many dvd’s! If there’s a movie I want to watch, I just need my dvd player/PS/Xbox and if I don’t have it a trip to a thrift store to buy one. This is so good for the environment too!
💸 Subscription Fatigue Is Real
It’s not just about the money (though that’s definitely part of it). It’s about the feeling that we’re being nickel-and-dimed for existing. Want to store your photos? Subscription. Listen to music? Subscription. Watch your favorite show? Subscription. I’m so tired of everything behind a paywall.
Did you know that the average family pays around $300 a month for subscriptions. Subscriptions!!! No, thank you.
Even the car companies are joining in — trying to charge for heated seats. Like, please. It’s a seat. Heat it and hush.
It’s all gotten a little out of hand.
🌿 Reclaiming Simplicity
So, I’m opting out where I can.
I want fewer apps, fewer logins, fewer “renewal” emails in my inbox. I want to own things again — music I can hold, movies I can watch anytime, a stereo that doesn’t need a Wi-Fi connection.
It’s not about going backward. It’s about stepping off the subscription treadmill and realizing that simple still works.
Maybe it’s nostalgia. Maybe it’s rebellion. Maybe it’s just exhaustion from watching everyone make money off of my convenience. But one thing’s for sure: I’m ready to own my peace again — one stereo and one antenna at a time.
