How to start saving money in your pantry! These tips save me $2237 per year.

With the price of everything set to continue going up this year, I’m looking for all the ways to save money. If I can save money on food then that is what I’m going to do. Here’s how I plan on saving money in my pantry.

I’m making my own mixes!

If you buy brownie mix you are paying for just the dry ingredients. You can make them at home by putting the dry ingredients in a baggie with a note of the wet ingredients to add and the cooking time. I plan on making my brownie mixes, cake mixes and even shake and bake mixes. It’s not hard to do and it saves you so much money with ingredients you already had in your pantry. Come back in the next few weeks to see my recipes for baking mixes you can do yourself.

I’m not purchasing soft drinks any more.

I’m making tea and kool aid and going back to the basics. I make my coffee using a reusable k-cup. I used to get 10 k-cups on sale for 6.99. I’ve gotten 20 cups so far using my reusable k-cup for the same price and I still probably have another 20 cups to go. It’s such a huge cost savings to my grocery budget.

I’m planning my garden and starting it now.

We just don’t know what the future holds, so my plan is to have a big garden this year. This is so I don’t have to rely on the grocery store as much. I purchased tomato seeds, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, green beans, lettuce, okra, and bell peppers (I actually have bell pepper seeds I dried from an organic bell pepper last year). We all need to learn how to dry our seeds as well! It’s not hard. I’m starting my new seeds in a small terrarium as soon as they come in. Then I will transplant them as they grow bigger. My goal is to have more tomatoes and cucumbers quicker as that’s what we love the most.

I’m using less meat and cooking more meatless meals.

It used to be that we ate meat once a week on a special occasion. Now it seems most people in the US eat meat at each meal. It’s so much better for you to eat less meat. My goal isn’t one meat a week but one meat a day and breakfast and lunch are meatless. This does two things: it makes me healthier and helps my budget. We oftentimes don’t eat much red meat at all. We tend to eat ground turkey or chicken at home for dinners now. At the age I am I need to get all the improvements in my health I can get. I’m doing that by cutting back on meat.

I’m going back to making my own yogurt.

I’m going to aim for making my own yogurt and adding my fruit or granola to it. Another thing I’ve done is stopped buying pre-shredded cheese. They coat it in something to make it not clump together and I’m just not sure that’s good for you. We love our cheese and it’s not hard to shred when you use this cheese shredder. It’s such a great little tool.

I’m thinking too that I will stop buying creamer and just use my whole milk for my morning coffee too. All of these are small changes but should cut quite a bit out of my budget. Every little bit adds up! Here’s a video I made of how I make my iced coffee recipe! Check it out if you like coffee!

I’m trying to have more of an ingredient pantry and less of a processed food pantry. I need to get better at canning too. I want to start to make my own bread as well. Processed food isn’t good for us and with prices going the way they are we need to find ways to make our budget work with less money.

I put all of this in a cart at Walmart to see how much I would save if I cut what is here out for the month. It came up to $186.44/month or $2237.28 a year. That’s quite a savings. I’m going to be happy with that much money still in my pocket at the end of the year. That’s enough to take the family on vacation.

My blog aim for this year is to share more ways to save in this crazy world we have to learn to live in. Come back next week and I’ll give you ways to save on television and how it’s saving me already $120/month! I’m so excited to share this post with you! Before you go head over to my youtube and Tiktok and follow me there! That’s where I’ll be sharing my videos of how to save so much money so you can still eat in this recession/depression we are probably about to enter! Have a lovely week!
