We’ve been known to cut the cord when times are tough. Well my friends, times right now are very tough for us. We will be fine but we are tightening our budget everywhere we can. We started out looking at getting rid of Youtube Tv as it’s $90/month and when we started it was like $50ish. We let this expire this month and have been quite pleased with how many channels we get with an antenna. With just an antenna, you get like 110ish channels (that’s what mine says). You get your local channels, plus ME tv, Replay tv, CW, Court tv, Ion, Laff, Outlaw, Biz tv, Movies, Catchy, Charge, Nest, Comet, Crimes, Mystery, Dabl, a game show channel, Oxygen and Grit. For Kids you get PBS Kids and Me TV toons (so what we watched as kids).
The ones up above are great if you don’t have wifi. If you have wifi you have so many more choices. You still need an antenna for your local channels. I prefer this roof top tv antenna for my local channels. You may or may not need an amplifier. We use this amplifier with our roof top tv antenna. It really does help bring the channels in clearer. Then you can use your Roku to get so many more channels. They have literally hundreds of channels on my Roku or my Pluto TV. The Roku and the Pluto TV apps are free. You don’t pay to watch them. A lot of times if you’re watching a particular channel on Roku then you don’t even have real commercials. Just 1.5 minute music breaks. It’s great. There’s no reason to continue paying for tv if you can’t afford to anymore. Just cut the cord and watch the money you save go towards something else you need!
There’s tons to watch and no reason to pay for tv anymore. Yes, you have commercials but you can even get rid of those by purchasing a dvr. During this month, we did have to buy a tv antenna, an amplifier and our tablo dvr. We did our research on youtube to figure out which dvr would be better for us. I think there are 3 that we looked into and we decided on the Tablo dvr. We received it and put it right to work and it’s working great! This only has 50 hours of recording so my plan is at the end of each week to delete whatever I’m done with so I can continue to record. No big deal at all.
Total spent this month on these items ended up being: $249.89. You can see the prices above! So for basically the price of Netflix for the year I now have a dvr (that I’ll never pay for again) and tons of channels and shows. I love it. The only thing I pay for now is Peacock at $25 a year during black Friday! What a great cost saving measure.
There are other ways you can save too. For example, you can use your library to rent dvds of movies or tv shows. That way you can watch whatever you want with no commercials at all. I do this if I’m bored with what’s on tv at the moment.
What other ways do you save money on tv? Leave me ideas in the comments. I can use all the ideas you have!
