How to make your own cloth paper towels

I had asked my daughter in law to make me some cloth paper towels out of flannel for my birthday. She purchased a flannel shirt for herself and it was a bit too small so she set about to making my flannel cloth paper towels. She basically cut them into a square and then she finished the edges by hand. You could definitely do this with a sewing machine though.

Fast forward to her giving them to me for my birthday, I loved them so. Well I had bought myself a pair of pj bottoms for Christmas and they were way too big. I mean like two of me could have fit in them. I had no idea what to do with them. After she gave my cloth flannel paper towels to me I immediately set about to making the pj’s into fabric paper towels. I mean, why not? This is a great use for them. Now my pjs were made from fleece so no hemming or finishing edges were needed because fleece doesn’t unravel. I didn’t really even measure because I just am not a perfectionist. I love just getting to work and then using what I made.

Here’s her pretty flannel ones with my fleece ones. I overlapped each cloth paper towel so that I could wrap them and have them come unwrapped on the paper towel holder.

If you’re looking for ways to cut down on your grocery bills this one could definitely help! I love that they wrap on the holder so I can use them instantly. I wanted these not to wipe up spills. But to use as a sandwich holder, apple holder, etc. I wanted to use them more like a paper plate with something that I technically don’t need a paper plate for. We stopped buying paper plates over 8 years ago. These will come in handy for breakfast sandwiches or lunch sandwiches.

What a great use for those pj bottoms that I would have probably just donated! Have you swapped something you buy out for something you made? What was it? I love to see what other ideas people have to repurpose or reuse things!
