I love easy recipes that are yummy and not loaded with so much sugar. I’m pre-diabetic so I have to watch what I eat. When I saw this easy and yummy looking recipe I knew I had to make it. This would be a great holiday cake recipe if you have other pre or diabetics in your family and they’ll be thrilled you thought of them!

Making this easy two ingredient cake is the easiest thing you will make for any holiday. Here’s how you make the Lower Sugar Cherry Angel Food Cake recipe.

First grab a 9×13 glass pan and do not spray it. If it’s metal spray it lightly. This cake needs the side of the pan to crawl up it. That’s what gives it such a good rise.

Then grab a mixing bowl and mix 1/4 c water with the lower sugar cherry pie filling and the angel food cake box mix. Now remember you can only use the angel food box mix that needs water. No eggs should be needed or this won’t turn out properly. I have the link for the correct angel food cake below!

Just mix it lightly so that it’s not over mixed. It made a very pretty batter.

I added probably a 1/4 cup of water to thin the batter just a bit. Added the batter to my 9×13 glass pan and put it in the oven on 325* to bake for 20-25 minutes.

Now I read everything that said not to spray your pan and I didn’t. But I wish you could see how tall this cake crawled up. It uses the side of the pan for it to grow tall. It was at least 1.5″ tall. This was such a super moist delicious cake. Anyone can make it! It will turn out yummy each and every time. Added some whipped cream in a can on top for a yummy icing!

This would be a lovely cake for birthdays as well. If someone is a diabetic and can eat this cake then this is the one to make for them. I think I’ll ask for one for my birthday in a few weeks. Here’s the final product.

Such great taste, amazing height and lovely texture for a sweet treat for the family. You’ve got to try this. Order these two items Angel Food Cake Mix and No Sugar Added Cherry Pie filling. You could also do this with strawberry pie filling, blueberry pie filling, or even apple pie filling. The choices are endless. But if it’s supposed to be lower sugar the choices may be a bit more limited to the cherry and the apple.

This is a beautiful cake that will highlight everyone’s day. So make it for the family soon and enjoy it without feeling guilty. Before you go make sure you check out my other cake recipes.

I’ve made this many times over the years, especially for my mother who was diabetic. We would often cut it into 2-in squares and freeze them individually. She enjoyed this treat with her coffee in the afternoon.
