Sometimes when it comes to dinner you just want something hot, filling, easy, and comforting. One of the recipes that comes to mind for me is skillet friend sausage and potatoes. I used to eat it ALL THE TIME when I would visit my grandma, and it just reminds me of family and simpler times. So after a not so nice day earlier this week I knew exactly what I wanted to make to give me that little mood boost that I needed. And I wanted to share this recipe with you all! It doesn’t take much time to prep, it’s cost effective, and it’s done in about 30 minutes which is always a win! Let’s check it out!

Simple Skillet Fried Sausage and Potatoes Recipe

You Will Need:

  • 1 lb smoked sausage
  • 4 russet potaotes
  • 1 onion
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Salt and Pepper to taste
  • Garlic powder and any other seasonings you like to taste (I always use a little Slap Yo Mama seasoning in everything I make, ha)
  • Vegetable oil

Instructions for making Simple Skillet Fried Sausage and Potatoes:

1. First, you will want to start by cutting up your sausage into bite sized slices. Once you have them chopped, add them to your skillet with a little vegetable oil and cook until well browned.

2. While your sausage is browning, it’s time to get to work on the other ingredients. You will want to chop your onion and potatoes into bite sized pieces. We don’t peel our potatoes because I like the crispy skin, but if you don’t, make sure you peel them before chopping. After chopping give them a good season with the seasonings of your choice.

3. Once your sausage is a nice golden brown, let’s add our potatoes and onions into the skillet. Also add your water and bring to a boil.

4. Once your water is boiling, turn down your heat to medium and cover your skillet for about 10 minutes, or until your potatoes start to soften.

5. After your potatoes start to soften remove the lid and kick the heat up to medium high, because now it’s time to get that crisp on your potatoes! You will want to FLIP (not stir, if you stir, your potatoes are going to start to fall apart) your ingredients every few minutes to make sure each side gets a nice crisp on them. Once they are at the texture to your liking, you are done!

How easy was that right!? Now enjoy your hot filling dinner, and hopefully it reminds you of simpler times of yesteryear like it does for me.
