Even thought it’s still bitterly cold outside, I can see little signs that spring is just around the corner. I see my neighbors tulips starting to sprout up out of the ground, and a few mosquitoes have started to pop up around the back yard, which can only mean that warmer temperatures are soon to be here. One of my favorite things about spring is the chance to get back outside! It’s not too hot or too cold, it’s green again, the perfect time of year. My family really enjoys taking walks and light hikes around our town, so in preparation for the spring coming I was pulling out our spring supplies and noticed that our old water bottle holders were in serious need of replacement. I thought I could buy some new ones, OR I could break out my crochet hook and some spare yarn out of storage and just make us some! It’s simple pattern, perfect for any crochet skill level as long as you can create a magic circle and do simple single crochet and double crochet stitches. I thought I would share this free pattern for anyone that might want to make a cute crochet water bottle holder for themselves. It’s great for camping, hiking, conventions, concerts, and more. Let’s check it out shall we?

Crochet Water Bottle Holder Free Pattern

What you will need:

  • Any weight 4 skein of yarn (you can size up the yarn, but it will alter the size of your finished project)
  • Size 5.5 mm crochet hook
  • stitch markers
  • scissors

The Pattern:

Stitches used:

MR- Magic Ring

CH- Chain

SC- Single Crochet

DC- Double Crochet

INC- Increase (2 stitches in the same stich)

SLST- Slip Stitch

Round 1: ch 2 and put 12 dc in a MR, slst (12 stitches)

Round 2: ch 2 and put a DC INC in each st around (24 stitches)

Round 3: ch 2 and alternate a DC and a DC INC in each stitch around (36 stitches)

Round 4-18- ch 3 skip 1 st DC in the next stich, (ch 1 sk 1, DC in next stitch, ch 1) around, SLST  in 2nd first chain. (This is what will create your mesh pattern for your bottle. Such a simple stitch for such a cool design!)

Now we will be moving on to your strap. Before you do that, grab your water bottle and check your sizing. You can add or remove rows as needed to fit the size of the bottle as needed. When you are happy with the sizing, let’s move on to the strap. We will be starting on your last round and switches to rows from there.

Strap:

Row 1: ch 1, sc in the next 5 sts, turn.

Row 2-50- ch 1 sc in the next 5 sts, turn.

Fasten off after row 50, or until you are happy with the length of your strap, sew your strap to the other side of your water bottle holder, making sure it isn’t twisted before you begin sewing. And you’re done! Easy as that. Only took me about an hour and my project was done and ready to use on your next adventure!
