Recently I found out my sweet cousin is pregnant with her first babies! (yep, it’s twins!!) and the only thing she asked me to do was make her a set of crochet baby blankets for the little bundles of joy. Ya’ll, I’m going to be honest, I’m more of a crochet toy maker, so I was a little worried about taking on this project. But I was able to figure out how to make a super easy crochet baby blanket pattern that works up quickly, is great for beginners, and keeps it simple, but still looks super cute! I knew I had to share it with my readers who also happen to be fellow crochet lovers! This blanket only takes a few skeins of yarn and a few hours (depending on how fast your work ,of course) to complete and is perfect for a baby shower gift. Want to learn how to make it yourself? Let’s check it out!

Here is how to make my Super Easy Crochet Baby Blanket FREE Pattern

You Will Need:

  • About 900 yards of size 3 weight yarn (I used the Lion Brand Ice Cream yarn because the colors are beautiful and it’s oh-so-soft).
  • 4mm Crochet hook (you can size up or down depending on your tension)
  • Optional: stitch markers if you feel you need them.

Stitches Used:

SC- Single Crochet

DC- Double Crochet

CH- Chain

The Pattern:

*Your chain 3 at the beginning of your row counts as 1 stitch

Row 1: CH 114

DC in 2nd ch from the hook and repeat until the end of you row, ch 3, turn

Row 2-86: DC into each st across, ch 3, turn

At row 86 your base for your blanket will be done, now it’s time to work on the trim!

The trim is a super simple 3 chain loop that will look really adorable but is still beginner friendly and easy to do. At the end of your 86th row, you will NOT tie off, you will just continue your work. You will be starting on the right side of your blanket when it’s facing you.

*optional- go ahead and place a stitch marker at your beginning loop so you will know when you have made your way back around your entire blanket.

Trim Pattern:

Ch 4, turn

Skip the first st and ch into the next st. Ch 3, sc into the next stitch, repeat until you have reached the end of your row (54 times)

When you reach the end, ch 3 and st into the corner space, ch 3 and st into the corner space again, turn your work to the next side of your blanket.

1st side edge:

Ch 3, sc into next ch SPACE and repeat until you reach the end of your side.

Bottom edge:

Ch 3 skip first st space, and sc into your next ch space, repeat until you reach the end of your bottom edge

2nd side edge:

Ch 3 sc into next space on your row, and repeat until you get to the end of your row and meet your stitch marker. Tie off and weave in your ends!

That’s it! I told you guys it was going to be a super easy and quick pattern didn’t I? And it turns out so cute and the perfect size for a baby blanket. And I love using yarn with different colors as it really kicks it up a notch doesn’t it? I hope you enjoyed this pattern, let me know your thoughts in the comments below!
