We are some serious game players here at our house. From simple board games and card games to Jackbox and more. We love them all. We play just about every Friday night. Just to sit with family and play games brings me such joy. My kids are older now (teens and one is actually 24) and we still love to play games together. When Are You Game reached out to me to see about reviewing their games it was a no brainer. Because it’s something that we love to do. So we jumped at the chance. Last night after we put up our Christmas trees and then we pulled them out and had so much fun. Here’s what I liked/disliked about each game.
Funglish is a game where you get to express it and guess it with piles of tiles! Grab and place fun and revealing clues on the word board as quickly as you can. Then see how fast you can get the other players to guess your secret word using only descriptive tiles. Now quick – can you get another secret word revealed before time runs out?
You have six different secret words to get across on each turn. Find the best descriptive tiles and win. It’s definitely red and edible. Kind of wet and liquid. Not living, sweet, or sour. Right, it’s ketchup! You and the guesser each score one point.
This game reminded me of Blatherround on Jackbox. Which is one of our favorite games there. So we had an absolute blast playing this. If you are looking for a board game version then this is it. It’s nice to have games that you do not have to have the internet for. We have a place we love to go by the lake and there’s no internet there. So these games were just what we were looking for and so much fun to boot!
Next up…Meltdown
Pile it on until there’s a… Meltdown! Take turns rolling the die to see how many cubes you have to try to stack on top of the balancing platform. The first to get all their cubes on the Platform (and stay) wins. But watch out! The squishy putty goop makes the tower shift unpredictably. If there’s a meltdown and any cubes fall off during your turn, you have to take them!
This game was the most fun. We truly enjoyed playing this game. You start off with a piece of squishy putty and you roll it into a ball. Then you add the platform to the top. Then you and your players take turns rolling the dice and adding cubes to the platform until it all goes into a meltdown. WE LOVED THIS GAME. It was so fun, surprising and exciting. Similar to Jenga but for some reason we liked it much better!
and last Anti-Monopoly
An update of the monopoly folk game invented by Elizabeth Magie 100 years ago. It’s a twist right out of today’s headlines: free market competitors clash with ruthless monopolists.
In Anti-Monopoly, players are divided into competitors and monopolists before the game starts. The two types of players then follow different rules in their quest for big money. It is this idea of movement and choice which allows Anti-Monopoly to be the first and only game in history which clearly distinguishes between the actions of competitors and monopolist.
Ok first of all…I, as a parent, do not love Monopoly. It takes too long and it’s just a long drawn out game. However this game was much faster and more fun. If you are like me in that you don’t enjoy how long it takes to play monopoly then you will love Anti-Monopoly.
These will all make great additions to your December 25 morning! You have to get these for the family and enjoy them this holiday season! And now you can win them all! Just wait for the rafflecopter to load and then follow it and enter to hopefully win!
