If you are looking for a great beginner crochet project then I have the perfect little project for you! It works up quickly, and you only need to know a few basic stitches to complete. These beginner crochet slippers are a great gift idea for friends and family for the holidays, or a quick project for craft fairs, or just something fun and simple to make for yourself. You also have a couple of options when it comes to the yarn you use for this project. I used a soft blanket yarn for mine, but you could use any blend you want! Want to learn how to make a pair yourself? Let’s get started!

- Scissors
- Optional: Pom-Poms (I made mine out of some scrap yarn)
Beginner Crochet Slippers Pattern:
*Tip- You will want to have a long tail at the beginning and end of your piece, about 12″ on both sides as you will be using them for assembly. This pattern is for a foot size around an 8 in women. If you want to adjust the size, make your chain as long as your foot and then add a few extra.
Abbreviation guide:
CH- Chain
SLST- Slip Stitch
HDC- Half-Double Crochet
Steps for my beginner crochet slippers pattern (Make 2):
- CH 40
- Row 1: Starting in the 2nd ch from the hook, HDC in each chain until the end of your row, ch 1 and turn. Check your length and make sure it is just a bit longer than your foot.
- Row 2: HDC in each ch across, ch 1 and turn.
- Row 3-20: repeat row 2 for a total of 20 rows or until rectangle is wide enough to wrap around the widest part of your foot.
- Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Repeat this pattern for your second rectangle. Now we are on to assembling your crochet slippers. I told you guys that this was going to be a super simple beginner friendly project didn’t I?
Fold your rectangle in half lengthwise, and using your long tail that you left yourself you are going to SLST your seam together. This will be forming the heal of your slipper. Once you have joined your heal together, fasten off and weave in your ends.
Next, we are moving on to the toe of your slippers. Using your other long tail, you will be forming a drawstring. Weave your yarn in and out using your tapestry needle from one side of your rectangle to the other. When you reach the end pull your string tight until your form a ball at your toe area. Make sure you pull tight and then fasten off. Do NOT trim or weave in your ends, you will be continuing to use this tail.
You final assembly step will be using your same tail to join your toe area together. SlSt a few inches up the foot. to close. Make sure you leave plenty of room to slip your foot into your completed slipper. Fasten off and weave in your ends! At this point your crochet slippers are complete but if you want to be fancy like me you can add a cute little pom-pom on top of your wish! I just created 2 pom-poms using my pom-pom maker and attached.
That’s it! It’s such a simple and adorable pattern and I hope you enjoyed it!
