When it comes to traveling in the summer season with children, there’s usually a financial constraint involved. It isn’t easy to afford to take off on a summer trip with the entire family when you’re living on a budget plan. While having a budget is fantastic, sometimes the memories that one has with a summer trip with kids are well worth splurging a tiny bit. Since most of us try to be financially savvy, I wanted to share the best summer trip ideas on a budget to help you get started for summer break vacation plans.
The Best Summer Trip Ideas on a Budget
Croatia
If you’re planning to go far away for a summer trip on a budget, then Croatia is the perfect spot. Many people think that traveling to Croatia is expensive, but it’s quite affordable. Getting there may cost the most, but you can hop on a cheap ferry to tour the islands and renting a car is extremely affordable at this location. There’s a place in Rovinj that has a beachfront location with affordable rooms, according to others who’ve taken a summer trip to Croatia.
Long Beach Island, NJ
You can easily use AirBnB to find an affordable place to stay in Long Island, NJ. This location offers a ton of things for your entire family to do. Enjoy climbing over 200 steps to the Barnegat Lighthouse where you’ll see a panoramic view of the island. There are surfing options and stand up paddling for those who aren’t surfers. So much to experience and you’ll enjoy the scent of the ocean and sounds of the waves. There are many affordable places to eat and sleep for just you and your spouse or the whole family.
Oregon’s Mt. Hood Territory
This is a beautiful location with many hiking options and waterfalls for you to view. This made it on my summer trip ideas on a budget due to the affordable activities and the many vacation rental properties that are listed at reasonable rates. There are many experiences to be had in Oregon’s Hood Territory such as grinding corn, visiting a real Elk farm and going kayaking. The activities and views are endless at this location for every family member.
Santa Fe/Albuquerque, NM
New Mexico is a great summer trip idea to experience the southwest. This location has the highest amount of Native Americans which means you can learn about the Navajo and Zuni Pueblo cultures as you enjoy a summer trip on a budget. Your best bet is to find a hotel in Albuquerque, as they are more affordable and nicer than the options in the city. You can enjoy an opera show and the local culture while traveling to Santa Fe/Albuquerque, NM this summer.
These are just a few of the best summer trip ideas on a budget for any size family. While you may think that traveling is too high cost for your budget, once you start researching these summer trip options, you’ll quickly find that you can afford to go on a summer trip this year. Just be certain to use deal sites like Groupon and Living Social to find more savings for your accommodation and travel needs.
You can also just stay at home and do a staycation and enjoy some quality family time. There’s usually a lot to do in your own town that maybe you hadn’t thought of! Most important just travel and have fun if you can! Like my articles? Please follow me on facebook and pinterest to see more!

My family has found we love the 2 day vay-cay. Most airlines allow for a 48 hour lay-over on a ticket. So we schedule our vacations/business/family trips with a layover somewhere interesting and take a bonus 48-hour vacation.
