I am going to first explain what zero waste is. This is a lifestyle change where you swap out common, everyday household goods or items for something that is reusable. Basically, it is a philosophy that encourages the redesign the use of resources so that they are reusable and in turn reducing waste. The less waste we can create the higher chances we have to positively help our environment.

Here are some zero waste swaps you can make in your home to help reduce your carbon footprint and learn to reuse more of what you already use in life. Here’s how you can adopt a zero waste lifestyle with these zero waste swaps.

Zero Waste Swaps to Reduce Waste

Bathroom Zero Swaps

Flossing – you can switch out your regular floss for Water Pik or perhaps silk floss.

Hairbrush – switch to a wooden hairbrush or comb, your hair will thank you too.

Dry Shampoo – make your own dry shampoo using recipes found online.

Lotion – make your own lotion using an online recipe and use a small mason jar for storage.

Kitchen Zero Swaps

Silicone Baking Mats –switch up that aluminum foil for reusable silicone baking mats.

Reusable Cupcake Liners – exchange your old paper or foil liners with reusable cupcake liners.

Metal Lunchbox – swap out the brown paper bag for a metal lunchbox.

Stainless Steel – swap out your plastic containers for stainless steel containers to store food.

Beeswax Food Wrap – exchange your old plastic wrap for 100% compostable beeswax food wrap.

Miscellaneous Zero Swaps

Toothbrush – swap your plastic toothbrush for a bamboo toothbrush.

Makeup Remover – use coconut oil with reusable cotton rounds for a zero waste swap.

Bar Soap – get rid of your containers of body wash and use bar soap instead.

Bamboo Toilet Paper – you can exchange your bleached toilet paper for bamboo toilet paper.

Reusable Shopping Bags – exchange plastic or paper bags at the store for your own reusable totes.

Start Composting – learn how to use composting of items that you toss out but can be reused this way.

Zero Waste Swaps Reduce Waste

When you look further into zero waste swaps to reduce waste, you’ll quickly find that the changes are small but very impactful on our environment. One simple zero waste swap of plastic or paper bags for reusable grocery bags alone, when done by multiple people all over the world, can significantly reduce the waste that’s tossed out. It’s important to know that most of the zero waste swaps I shared today are relatively easy transitions. As with any lifestyle change, it may take some getting used to but the zero waste swaps I shared today are all very easy changes to adjust to.
