We have not had a car note in about 12 years. We have good dependable older cars. Well this last month has been rough on our cars. My van has an oil leak. That means eventually I’m going to need either a new engine or a new car. My husband just had to put over $1000 worth of parts on his car too. My sons car has a radiator leak that will eventually mean a new engine as well. It’s one of those months you know! Oh I forgot we have an old 1993 Toyota pick up and my husband pulled in the driveway with it the other day and the engine went out as he was pulling in. UGH. If it’s not one thing it’s another. Sometimes it’s time to find a reliable new car.
My son decided it was time to get a new car. So he went and looked at a 2018 Honda Accord. This family is a pretty big Honda family. That and Toyotas are just what we own. He found a car he loved and he bought it. He ended up buying a 2012 Honda Civic. He’s thrilled and we are too. Here’s a few tips to getting a reliable car (which I’m going to need soon too!)
Take someone who knows cars with you when you go. You will learn things like if you open the car door and the car door (inside where you can see the old paint color of the car) paint color doesn’t match the outside of the car there’s a good chance it’s been in a wreck because it’s obviously been painted.
Have a mechanic look over the car and see if the engine looks good and there’s nothing leaking. Don’t just look at the outside paint and the body’s in good shape make sure the engine is in good shape.
Finally make sure you do your research online to see if you can get a good deal at the places and the cars you are looking at. We want you to get a good deal and a great reliable car. After you do that then hopefully you can be like me and have a few years without a car payment. I feel a car payment coming on soon!
I’m so proud of my son for deciding it was time to buy a more reliable vehicle. He loves his car and is happy to have it. It looks like I’m next!
