One of my favorite and easiest recipes is made using my clay pot. If you don’t have one you can see the Clay Pot bakers (Amazon link I may earn .50 to keep my site running only if you buy) here to see what they look like. They give the chicken such a delicious flavor and crispy skin too. It’s a win to make chicken like this in my book. Let’s check out my clay pot baked whole chicken recipe.

how do you cook a chicken in a clay pot

So you see how beautiful my chicken turned out. It tastes out of this world and like something you’ve spent hours on. But the reality is you took it out of the package, tossed out the neck and livers (or cooked them for your dog like I do) plopped it in your clay baker and you’re ready to go in no time.

Here’s my Clay Pot Baked whole chicken recipe and ingredients.

Whole Chicken Clay Pot Recipe directions

Place whole chicken in clay baker. Add your quartered onion to the inside cavity and outside cavity of chicken. Sprinkle garlic granules over the top (about 1 tsp) and 1 tsp of italian seasoning on the chicken as well. Cover your clay cooker. If you’re like me and you’ve lost or broken the top you can cover it with just aluminum foil. Place in a cold oven and turn temperature to 425*. Cook a 3-4 pound chicken for 1 hour 40 minutes. The last 10 minutes take the lid off so your chicken skin can crisp up. It’s delicious and super easy to make. It’s always a crowd pleaser. My kids are happy. My husband is happy. I’m happy. I’m so glad I found this recipe years ago. It’s delicious and simple and a great way to feed the masses. You will not be sorry you made the clay pot whole cooked chicken. It’s got the meat each person loves. Some love dark some love white but all love my clay pot whole chicken. Have you got a clay pot baker? What is your favorite recipe to make in it?
