DIY 2 Ingredient Charcoal Face Mask

If you have any form of social media, I’m going to guess that you have seen the videos and ads for the charcoal face mask right? First, let me start off by saying, they are not even close to being as painful as some of the videos have made them out to be. Second, did you know you can make them yourself? With only two ingredients? It’s true! Once I found out how easy it was to make, I knew I had to try it out for myself. Well, I did, and I was AMAZED at how much gunk it got out of my pores!

I have always been a fan of activated charcoal anyways (It’s great for stomach aches and it does amazing things for your teeth!), so I knew it had to be great for skincare as well. So do you know what the other ingredient is for my 2 ingredient charcoal face mask is? Ya’ll….it’s glue. Yep. Good ole Elmer’s glue. I know, I was shocked too.

Now I know some of you are saying “WHAT!? Glue on your face?” Yes girl. Glue on your face. The same non-toxic glue kids have been eating and rubbing all over their hands for years. That glue. I know it sounds crazy, but trust me on this one. It’s awesome. And if it makes you feel better, do a little patch test of it on your hand first. Not only will your hand feel soft and amazing, you can also see how your skin is going to react.

All you have to do is grab your activated charcoal )I got mine from a local salt cave, but you can grab some from amazon, local health food stores, or GNC) and put it in a small container, squeeze a little glue (about a tbsp) and mix WELL until a black paste forms.

This is what your mask will look like. It looks like…well, black glue ha! Make sure it isn’t chunky, but also isn’t runny. You want it to be nice and thick. After you have made your face mask, throw your hair up, and wash and dry your face. Once you are ready to go there are a few things to remember.

  1. Do NOT put this mask on your eyebrows. Or anywhere else that you have hair that you don’t want removed. It WILL pull the hair off of your face. Seriously.
  2. It is a tiny bit painful. Your face is covered in tiny hairs. They will get pulled out. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would say the most painful part only hit like a 3. Totally doable but it does sting.
  3.  It takes about 45 minutes for the mask to dry. So be patient because it you try to pull it off before it’s dry, it isn’t happening.

The 2 ingredient charcoal face mask  isn’t hard to apply. Use a paint brush and brush it on your face! I decided to do my nose and cheeks where I have a lot of black heads. It goes on super smoothly, and tightens as it dries. it feels good! Once it’s dry it’s time to peel it off! Start at the corner and peel slowly. If your into like i am, do it in the mirror so you can watch the gunk leaving your pores. It’s grossly fascinating!

Check out that pore cleaning action! My nose has never looked or felt more clean. I was really amazed. I plan on doing this weekly!
