Moms are made of magic!
As a child I looked at my mom and saw a superhero and a magician. I mean, let’s be honest, the lady did it all! From breakfast in the morning to tucking us in at night and everything in between, my mom had it covered. She did it all while working a full time job and at times, attending night courses to further her education and career. As a teenager, I was in awe of my mom. Her work ethic, her beauty, her kind heart and the way she could make anyone feel comfortable and at home. Lots of my friends in high school called my mother “mom” because she made them feel like family. She’s just that kind of lady.
As adults we realize how truly amazing our moms are…
Now, as an adult I am even more in awe of my mom because she made everything look effortless and I am learning first hand that it’s not always as easy as she made it look. Since Mother’s Day is right around the corner, I decided that I really want to spoil my mom this year. She always made sure us kids were happy and had nice things growing up and she now does the same for her grandchildren. She always puts herself last and Mother’s Day is the only day of the year that she will allow us to spoil her like she deserves.
Things That Bling
My mom’s jewelry has always been very pretty and simple. She didn’t have a diamond engagement ring only a plain gold wedding band. I remember seeing her admire jewelry in the window as we passed the jewelry store, telling me how beautiful a certain ring or earrings were. I promised myself that I would buy her a piece of incredible, sparkling jewelry one day. Now I can keep that promise. I was thinking that a pair of classic diamond earrings or a diamond tennis bracelet might be perfect for mom. Classic beauty just like her! Then I saw a gorgeous ruby pendant on a delicate gold chain and thought it would be a great twist on my mom’s casual style.
Because Every Mom Deserves Some “Me Time”
I can count on one hand how many times I saw my mom doing “nothing” when I was growing up. She was always busy. After work she would help with homework, cook dinner, wash the dishes, spend quality time with us and get us ready for the next day and bedtime. One day I asked her what she did after we all went to bed. She said she would grab a good book or the radio, a glass of wine and some scented candles and take a bubble bath. After relaxing in the tub and soaking away the stress of the day she pampered herself with fancy lotion and pajamas before going to bed. This is still her favorite way to spend a quiet night enjoying her “me time”.
Just Because She Wants To
Now that the kids are grown, mom has a little bit more time to do things that she likes. Things that she wants to do just because. Things that she just never had the time to justify doing before because she had so much other “important” stuff to do. Well now it’s important for mom to experience some of the things she has always talked about trying. She has talked about making homemade wine for years. Pottery making and sculpting is something she wanted to try forever! My mom has told us since we were little that she regrets not learning how to play the piano. I say it’s never too late to learn and I would love to make it happen.
It’s Our Turn To Do The Spoiling
Mom did everything in her power to make our childhood amazing. Now it time for us to make her special day even more amazing. This Mother’s Day, go above and beyond for her. Make her feel like the queen that she is. It’s a little way to say thank you for the countless things she has done for us over the years. And let’s face it, there isn’t anything we wouldn’t do to see her smile.
