how to update your home in 3 easy steps

We’ve lived in my house for over 16 years now. I was so ready to give the front of my house a facelift. It was time to update it and give it new life. So I did a few things that helped me to update my house. It wasn’t too time consuming. We did it in a Saturday and love the results. Here’s the before of my house.

my porch before the update The green is what I’m kind of over. I loved it at first but that was 16 years ago. Now I was ready for something new. So we broke out some paint. First we wiped down the shutters. Then we taped off behind them. Then we simply painted them the new, lighter and brighter color.

The second thing we did was update our light fixtures that are probably right at 30 years old. Here’s my old fixtures.

old lighting

My husband had no problems following the directions on the box and putting up our new Del Mar light fixtures. I love the look of the bronze wall sconce against the brick. They’re so pretty and really stand out. We bought new decorative light bulbs that have that old timey look to them. You can see the incandescent lighting inside the bulb but they’re LED bulbs. Love them.

And here:

Aren’t they cute?

The last thing you can add is the changing seasons to your porch. I added a snowman wanting snow and a classic old sled to the porch. I think it turned out lovely. If you’re looking for great lighting and fans you should check out Del Mar Fans and Lighting. If you’re a fan like me then follow them on facebook and youtube.

Del Mar Fans and lighting has lovely fans like the Casablanca. Go ahead and check them out for all your fan needs as well.
Tomorrow I’ll be sharing a giveaway for the lovely wall sconce lighting with you on my facebook page. So keep your eyes peeled and make sure to check back on Friday.

Whenever I want a home makeover I always rely on a new fresh coat of paint. It really makes a big difference from what it looked like to what it is now. Thanks for your own tips!

What a gorgeous transformation. I need to update the front of my apartment because it’s just bland. There’s not much I can do as a renter but I’m sure I could make it more appealing.

It’s amazing what a fresh coat of paint will do! Your shutters love lovely. I’ve lived in my house for a long time and we recently replaced our shutters. They were too far gone for paint. As soon as spring arrives, I’m giving my porch a fresh coat of paint.

Great tips! We just moved into a townhouse for the next few years, but after that I can’t wait to do some of this to whatever house we move into next. Great ways to update the front!
