NASHVILLE BREASTFEEDING COALITION TO HOST “THE BIG LATCH ON” EVENT AT OPRY MILLS ON SATURDAY, AUG. 1
WHAT: The Nashville Breastfeeding Coalition will invite mothers to feed their babies in the Food Court at Opry Mills as part of The Big Latch On, a global initiative which strives to promote a positive environment and community support for nursing infants.
Women’s Health Action coordinates The Big Latch On, which is hosted during World Breastfeeding Week in more than 120 countries around the globe. The organization aims to raise awareness, knowledge and support for mothers who breastfeed in public.
WHY: National and international health agencies have asked communities to support nursing mothers as breastfeeding in public is protected by state and federal laws and has been found to reduce the risk of breast cancer, diabetes, obesity and more. Through The Big Latch On, the Nashville Breastfeeding Coalition is helping new moms feel welcome and connected to family, friends and the community.
