DIY Starburst Mirror

DIY sunburst mirror

This summer I have made it my goal to clean organize, and decorate my home. I’m finding it is much more enjoyable to decorate than it is to clean it, ha! When it comes to decorating I love anything cheap, cute, and DIY and I think this DIY Sunburst Mirror hits all of those. This project was inspired by a really awesome sculpture that I saw in a local store that I couldn’t bring myself to pay $40 for. My DIY version cost me $2 to make (yes, really!) and looks great on my door if I do say so myself. So I thought maybe someone else might love to learn how to make one! If you can use a hot glue gun then you can make this project easily. Ready to check it out?

Here is how to make this DIY Sunburst Mirror:

You Will Need:

  • A small mirror (the one I used was from the dollar tree and is used to put under candles!)
  • Wooden Skewers (Also found at the dollar tree)
  • Silver Pray Paint
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Wall Hanger

First, Turn your mirror over to the back side and use your hot glue gun to start gluing your wooden skewers to the mirror. I spaced them about 1/2 an inch apart to start, and then went back and filled in the extra space.

Next, You will want to cover the mirror. I used blue painters tape, but you could use whatever you have on hand. This is to ensure that spray paint doesn’t get on your mirror!

Then, this step is optional. You could choose to keep all your skewers the same length, but I really wanted to go for that burst look so every other skewer I broke about half way down.

Next, it’s time to break out that spray paint. Naturally you should go outside for this step because you don’t want to be breathing in those fumes. I chose silver because I love the way it looks with the mirror (plus I already had some at home so I didn’t have to buy any!), but you could go crazy and do any color you would like! Make sure to coat your skewers evenly and let dry before the next step.

Lastly, add a hanger to the back of your DIY Sunburst Mirror (I used a command strip) and hang wherever you would like!

Wasn’t that easy!? I hope you enjoy!
