If you are like most women, you are so busy with everyone else that when it comes to you, you often skimp on things. Like clothes shopping. I often find myself grabbing something off the rack and hoping for the best; “this medium looks like it should fit, but then again maybe I should go with the large just in case. Eh, whatever, I will take the large, it’s better that it fits a little big than not at all!” Sound familiar?

When was the last time you actually took your measurements before you bought something? For me it’s been years and your answer is probably pretty close to mine! Now, thanks to Monroe and Main, things are changing. Monroe and Main is the industry leader in clothing that fits various body types in size 6-24 or S-3X and everyday they are helping women confidently dress to fit their style needs while balancing their shape and flattering their figure. 

I got to try Monroe and Main’s “How to Dress Your Body Type Kit” and I want to tell you about my experience. Like I said earlier, it’s been years since I have had my measurements taken, so I was a little nervous about doing it myself. I used the measuring tape that comes with the kit and it was so easy to do. I actually felt kind of special, like a celebrity getting fitted for a fabulous outfit to wear on the red carpet! Once I had my measurements written down, it was time to shop!

First I had to check out Monroe and Main’s How To Dress Your Body Type Pinterest board for some ideas and I ended up choosing shapewear and this gorgeous dress. I would never have chosen this dress on my own before, but once I knew my measurements and figured out my body type I had so many more options. I had always been unsure of my body type but Monroe and Main makes it so easy to figure out. Within minutes, a lifetime question was answered! I am an hourglass shape!

The styles I would have chosen before would limit me a lot. Armed with my new knowledge (thanks, Monroe and Main!) I was able to consider new and different styles. I feel like it allowed me to open up and be a bit bolder in my style because before, I would look at an outfit and say, “no, I couldn’t wear that”. Now I am looking and saying “oh yeah, I could definitely rock that, it’s perfect for my body type!” I have a confidence I didn’t have before because I now know the best ways to flatter my figure and embrace my curves.

  17. Since I’m bigger on the bottom than on the top, I’m a triangle. I learned that I should wear solid dark pants and skirts, with bright and/or printed tops. This way the eye is drawn upwards.

  53. I think the Wrap Around Braid Belt in Sand is perfect for summer, it’s fun and beachy. I don’t like bulky belts in the summer and this one is adorable and stylish!

  61. I learned that I am probably a rectangle but close to an hourglass. I do believe that garments with belts or a-line dresses do help to define a waist for me.

  70. Hourglass body shapes are defined by a waist that’s smaller than both the bust and hips. You have an hourglass body shape if your bust and hips are visually wider and similar in measurements, and if your waist measurement is smaller than the other two.

  74. I learned that they are 5 body types and you can find out what type you are from measuring the bust, hip, and waistline. I learned that I am hourglass but not quite sure because I am 50 pounds overweight. It is hard to find clothes that fits me nevertheless works well with my body shape. But, I like the simplicity that Monroe and Main have done to finding your body shape.
