If you’re not from around these parts you may not be entirely sure what Sundrop is. It’s my hubby’s favorite soda. It kind of reminds me of Mountain Dew or back in the old days ski (anyone remember ski?). He doesn’t drink this soda often but he sure does love this cake. Check out my recipe for the Sundrop cake and make one for yourself.
We have the cutest Sundrop cafe in a neighboring town that we went to visit last month. My dh and I have made a decision to date each other by eating at the best quaint out of the box restaurants we hear about on our favorite show Tennessee Crossroads on our local PBS station. They take you to a yummy mom and pop restaurant to find some new places to eat. So we went and loved it. It is set up like a soda shoppe on the square in Tullahoma TN.
They have a great Pizza place close by too. We love to eat on the square in Tullahoma. So many great places to eat. The Sundrop Shoppe had yummy food and a great atmosphere.
It was such a cute set up. It had the luncheonette counter. It was like you stepped back in time. I love the kids area above.
The Sundrop bottling plant/distribution center was close by! Then our food came and it was hands down so delicious. I had their potato soup and a chicken salad sandwich with of course a sundrop to drink.
Then for dessert we had to get the sundrop cake. It was divine.
Oh so good. Of course, after eating there I knew I had to find the recipe to make my own. Here’s what you need.
First gather your ingredients.
5 Ingredients
Sundrop, Lemon pudding, Lemon cake, eggs and oil.
Mixing the dry ingredients first.
Add the wet ingredients. Then we’re ready to bake our Sundrop cake.
- one box lemon cake mix, one box lemon instant pudding, 3 eggs, 3/4 cup oil, 12 oz of sundrop
- Mix dry ingredients, add wet ingredients and mix until thoroughly mixed. Pour into greased and floured bundt pan. Bake at 375* for 30 minutes. Let cool 15 minutes then get out of pan and on to plate.
- Glaze cake with 1 c confectioners sugar, 1 tsp vanilla, 2 tsp lemon juice (or water). Glaze cake after it's cool. My cake is glazed. However I glazed it when it was still warm and it was absorbed by the cake. So cool the cake first. Don't make my cake fail! LOL
Check out my blogger’s friends posts and their lovely Valentine’s Desserts that they made in the linky below. Which dessert would you be likely to make?
Remember to let your cake cool! Don’t be like me and wish you had! Once the cake is cool (40 minute rest). Then you can glaze your cake and it won’t absorb.

I have never heard of SunDrop but it seems similar to Sprite and I bet it would work just as well 🙂 Thanks for the easy recipe!
patricia
No. It’s not similar. Sundrop is more lemony.
Charlene
Can you use cherry lemon sundrop instead
Dina
I don’t see why not! Go for it.
Virginia
What type of oil?
Dina
I use whatever I have on hand. Sometimes it’s vegetable and sometimes it’s canola.
