Saving Money on Christmas

It’s amazing how fast the year goes by. Christmas is right around the corner and if you are anything like me you are trying to save as much money as you can while still giving some great gifts and celebrating with loved ones. Here are some ways to save money on Christmas.

Gifts
Don’t pay full price. If it’s not on sale, look elsewhere. Shop online and use coupon codes. Follow your favorite stores on social media for access to exclusive discounts and promos. Have a set amount to spend for each recipient. Only use cash and leave any credit cards you may have at home to keep yourself from overspending. Take advantage of free gift wrapping when you buy. If you are going to wrap your own gifts, buy supplies at the dollar store. You can save a bundle on gift boxes, bags, wrapping paper, bows, greeting cards and tape at the dollar store.

Food
Plan your entire Christmas menu around sales and coupons. Start shopping ahead of time to get the best sale prices. Use your store’s rewards card to earn points, cash towards shopping or even a free turkey or ham. Ask guests to bring a favorite side dish or dessert. Check out the grocery aisle in the dollar store for great savings on condiments, drinks and snack foods.

Decorations
Make your own with ideas you find online. You can also save a lot of money once again, by going to the dollar store. They have decorations, ornaments, lights and while you’re there, take a look at the Christmas themed serving platters and food containers. You can also grab some plastic dishes, plates and cups to be used at the children’s table.

Travel
Book flights as early as possible. The closer to Christmas the higher the prices. Compare prices online before you buy. Pack light to avoid extra baggage fees. Consider a late night or over night flight for an even better price. If you any free miles saved up, this is a good time to use them. Look at other options such as train or bus travel if possible. It may take longer to get to your destination, but it can also save money, so think of the pros and cons to decide if it’s worth it.

With some holiday cheer and frugal ways you can celebrate Christmas and still stay on a budget. Use some of these ways to save money on Christmas and still have money left to spend in the new year.
