Make your own deodorant
DIY Deodorant a great homemade recipe to cut chemicals

I’m always reading and trying to find new ways to get chemicals out of my house. If I can find a product that replaces a chemically laden one I’m going to either buy it or make it myself. That just happened with this diy deodorant recipe. After finding the recipe I quickly made it and feel in love with the feel and the smell of it. This is day 2 of using it and it’s working great so far.  I’m, uh, very hard on deodorant. I need a strong one that works well. Which is why it’s taken me so long to try this one out.  This one I made has a faint citrus scent that I love.

Check out the homemade deodorant recipe below.

Ingredients
  1. 5-6 tbs of coconut oil
  2. 1/4 c baking soda
  3. 1/4 c cornstarch
  4. 3 drops essential oil I used orange
Instructions
  1. add baking soda and cornstarch together and mix. Add the coconut oil and mix with the baking soda and cornstarch. Stir in essential oils. Store in a container with a lid. Use a pea size and rub under the arms generously. Get too much? No problem just rub it on those problem areas like elbows, knees, etc.

Isn’t that a simple recipe. Just stir everything together and store in an old sour cream container or a jar. It doesn’t bother me that it’s cream based. My moms deodorant in the 80’s was cream based and I used it. So this one is a great way to try out a new deodorant in fall/winter when I’m usually not quite as smelly. If this doesn’t work out I’ll come back and let you know. I’ve already done my laundry from yesterday and the arms of my shirt I wore yesterday has no smell to it and no stains from the deodorant. So far so good.

Chemicals are in everything. There is no reason for most of it. Are you aware of the chemicals? I gave my cleaners a makeover to get a lot of unnecessary chemicals out. Check out my article on green cleaning recipes. My daughter made a lovely sugar scrub instead of buying one, and this one is all natural. Check out her sugar scrub recipe too. She’s also made her own lip balm.  How about a make up cleaner that doesn’t use any chemicals? We all need that. Check out my review of the make up eraser and see how to take your make up off without chemicals too. Chemicals are often unnecessary part of our life. I’m trying so hard to do this small thing to help my family by getting the chemicals out of the house.

Would you try the homemade deodorant recipe? How are you getting chemicals out of your house?

I had a friend that used to make her own deodorant because she was allergic to the aluminum in most store brands. She said it was the best thing ever.

I have coconut oil and rarely use it. I didn’t realize I could use it for deodorant. I’ll definitely be trying this recipe.

I love home made solutions like this. Regular deodorant is full of chemicals and metals that can really irritate the skin.

Wow! I never would have thought to make my own! The kind I buy is heavy duty and costs me $10 for a small thing. I will be trying this out!

I’ve heard of using coconut oil for a deodorant. I had been meaning to try it. Mixed with these other ingredients it makes sense. I’d love to try this. Trying to stay away from as many chemicals as possible.

I’ve never heard of anyone making their own deodorant before, but I guess why not. I have friends who make their own scrubs, face masks and even toothpaste.

I have heard of doing it yourself. Every since I found out they tell you not to wear deodorant for your mammogram, I’ve been skeptical about what’s in the store bought.

I like to make my own beauty products, but have never tried deodorant. I’d like to though as store bought just doesn’t seem to be cutting it for me lately.
