10 things you must do before the baby gets here!

Having a baby is such a sweet and scary time. It’s sweet because you love that baby so much. It’s scary if you’ve never done it before and you have no idea what to expect. While I won’t be there for those nighttime feedings (thank goodness)  here’s 10 things you must do before the baby gets here.

1. Get registered so when you have those fun baby showers you are ready with the items you are going to need.

2. Plan your meals and try to cook ahead and get some meals in the freezer. You have family or friends that will more than likely help but it’s always nice to have some extra meals on hand for when you are too tired to cook.

3. Make sure your car has a full tank of gas. No one wants to stop and get gas when you are about to have a baby!

4. Get the room ready. The baby will come whether the room is ready or not. Try to get the walls painted and the furniture situated the way you want it before the baby comes.

5. Order your unique baby shower invitations. When you order your announcement cards or shower invitation from that site it is so very simple to design your very own card. Make it personal to you, your partner and the sweet new addition. The shower is such a fun time for a new mom. You want those ordered and planned usually around the 6-7th month of pregnancy. This will help with you getting your room set up and the diaper bag prepared for baby.

6. Buy the diaper bag. Prepare the diaper bag with all the items a newborn will need.

7. Purchase and have on hand newborn cloth diapers or disposable diapers. Put some in the diaper bag.

8. You will want to have some prefolds (cloth diapers) to use as burp cloths. They make excellent burp cloths.

9. Plan date nights ahead of the birth and arrange sitters. You will want to connect with your spouse again after it’s been all baby for a few weeks. Go ahead and plan a night out and get the sitter ahead of time.

10. Plan your help if you have a parent that wants to come help you with the baby it’s a great idea to let them. Let them take care of the baby while you get a nap. It’s good for mom and baby to have some time away.

These are the 10 things I thought of off the top of my head. Did I miss anything? What do you feel you need to do before the baby gets here? Leave me a comment! Or what do you think should be in that diaper bag?

I like the idea of planning the date nights. Date nights are hard to come by and if you don’t plan them, they will be hard to do.

Meals in advance are a brilliant idea. I had some friends bring me meals after I had my babies and it was the best thing ever.

I understand the importance of #3. That happened to me. The owner gave us 5 gallons of gas and told my husband to pay when he returned.

The one thing we didn’t do was plan date night. We’re still working on that… five years in. LOL!

I love the list! Planning and preparing a few freezer meals in advanced is brilliant! Having time to figure out what and then cooking is hard to do once baby arrives. The whole list is a must read (and do)!

I totally agree with getting some meals planned ahead. I baked a lot of bars and muffins before my first baby so I had some food ready to go for when guests came over.

This is a great list! When a new baby is on the way it can be difficult thinking of all the little things to do before their arrival!

Pack a suitcase for the time you are in the hospital. Although I over packed, I am glad that I was prepared.

That’s actually so smart to have a full tank of gas. That really could have mattered in my case!

I wished I had hired a housekeeper. I didn’t think about the gas tank. That is a good one.

I would also add in getting a pedicure right before your due date. You want your toes to look nice in photos. I have a baby due in November, it’s our 5th. My husband and I have it down to a science now.

Yes on the pack a bag early. My daughter came a month early and we were not fully prepared to head out the door.

I completely agree with #9. It’s so important to still have a relationship with your spouse after the baby arrives.

Great tips. When my first baby came along, it was overwhelming to say the least. Luckily I had people around me who were happy to help. Some don’t have that luxury, though.

Pre make a few meals, clean up the home, and make sure to have breast pads. Nothing worse than leaks visibly noted on your shirts!

Having a tank of gas is a good one I don’t know if I thought of that one any of my 3 times and we are an hour away from the hospital. Luckily it all worked out. Enjoy this time it goes by so quickly.
