Why do you blog?
Here lately as a blogger I’m all tied up in pageviews. Why are they going down? How can I get them up? Ugh, it’s very frustrating. Just when you think you’ve found the magic key to pageviews it changes. It does this to me all the time. I’m tired of getting all worked up about my pageviews. I should be happy with 200 per day. I’m not. I’m not because one day I had 1600. I am, however, turning a new leaf. It doesn’t matter how many pageviews I get during the day. I will set out to write content that people want to read. Good content is more valuable then how many pageviews I get in a day. So today I vow to let go of the stress of trying to get my pageviews up and let the knowledge that I’m writing good content be my guide.
Are you blogging for pageviews or as a writing outlet?
I’m blogging because I love to write and share what I’ve learned. So the latest xyz company won’t want me. So what? I’m here to write in the comfort of my home and keep my kids clothed and fed. That’s what I’m doing too. You can do this too. How? By giving yourself permission to be who you are. You are the most valuable you that there is. And there is only one you. What makes you tick? Is it spending time with your kids? Cooking a great meal? Being there for your family? The plane would tell you to put your oxygen mask on first. You can’t help your family unless you’ve taken care of you. Do that today. Take care of you.
Let’s go back to who you used to be and blog about what’s important to normal people…not just bloggers!
What’s important to you? What do you want to write about? Who do you write for? Do you write to impress or do you write as an outlet? Do you write for yourself or do you fall into that category of trying to please others? Sometimes the ability to say no is the biggest gift you can give yourself. So say no sometimes. You need to put yourself first. You are the number one in your life. The others will get used to your saying no and will begin to do it themselves or find another sucker. Be the best you that you can be. Be proud of who you are! I’m…uh I mean…you are not your pageviews and neither am I! Why do you blog?

I don’t blog for any other reason but to document personal experiences that I find interesting, ergo someone else might find interesting. If I one day get a following then great, I’ll know that my takes on life was of interest to people, and if not, it was cool to journal for myself.

I think it is very stressful to keep up with page views, but unfortunately so many companies are hung up on them. I hate that two months ago I tasted just about 200k umvs, and now I’m under 100k…it is such a stressful roller coaster because you don’t want to be talking to yourself either.
louidam1
I try not to be hung up on numbers when it comes to blogging but you have to if you want to work with companies. But what’s important is that you enjoy what you’re blogging about.
Robin (Masshole Mommy)
I started as a place to keep track of my life. Since then it has taken on a life of its own, but as long as I always stay true to the reason I started, I am ok with that.
Jennifer B
This is all so true. It’s more for me than anyone else and when I get frustrated with the roller coaster that is my pageviews, I try to remember that.
melinda
I blog because it’s my job at least it is lately. Never do I claim to be a writer but I do enjoy it most days
Dina
I definitely think you should claim being a writer…it’s what bloggers are. 🙂
Melissa @ This Girl's Life Blog
I blog because I enjoy writing about things that I love like DIY projects and crafts, beauty, fashion and recipes. However, since I have made it a part time job for myself I won’t lie and say that the money isn’t a fantastic perk but it definitely isn’t why I blog. I try not to let the pageviews take over because they definitely can.
Dina
They can for sure! I love to do crafts, recipes and diy too. It’s fun.
Lindsey @ Redhead Baby Mama
Its so hard when you’re faced with all those numbers. it’s like looking after a scale. maddening.
Dina
I so agree!!!

I started to fill time when my baby went to college, and somehow it just stuck. Fortunately, it provides a living for me now.
Dina
My firstborn is a senior in high school. It’s funny how quickly things change and life takes a new direction.
Rosey
The first year I paid no attention to numbers. Zero, zip, zilch, nada. Then I started writing sponsored posts and found out that they mean something if you want to earn something. So, I started working on them more. 🙂
Brett Martin (@brettbmartin)
Because it’s fun and a creative outlet. And it’s become a means of supporting my family
Dina
Me too! And I’m beginning to be able to count on the income which is nice for sure!
Beth@FrugalFroggie
I write to help people save money. I am passionate about helping people save as much money as they can to live a better life.
Jaime McKee (@jaimemckee)
If I blogged for pageviews, I would have given up years ago. 😉 I blog about my life. It started as something to try, and led into something my aunt could read to my grandma (my grandma has a difficult time hearing me on the phone.) It then evolved into a pregnancy journal and now I just keep writing about my family, my running life and whatever else strikes my fancy that day!
Terin Garrett
I blog to record our memories for my kids to read later on in life. I think it’ll be wonderful to read and see their childhood memories!
Dina
I think about that too. Well at least my kids will know my thoughts on all kinds of things.
Debbie L.
I started to blog because I love telling stories and I wanted to have a creative outlet…I really do not pay much attention to all the number stuff with blogs. Companies do – so I guess I am lucky that my numbers are okay
Valerie Gray (@valmg)
I blog for a lot of reasons. I actually don’t look at my stats that often because they aren’t what’s important to me.
Valerie Gray (@valmg)
It can be hard not to focus on stats, with so many people wanting to know what they are and wanting them to be something different. – Jenn @ The Rebel Chick

I love that I have a space of my own. I blog because I guess I have a lot to say and I want to inform. 🙂
sippycupmom
I blog because I like having a place to express my opinions but it’s also my full time job now. So unfortunately I need to look at page views!
savoryexperiments
I blog as a hobby, however it has become an addiction and/or part time job. I take a lot of pride in what I’ve put together.
Janeane M. Davis
I describe myself as a Superwoman, aka a wife and mother of four. I am an African-American mom blogger whose mission is to inspire, encourage and motivate women to be their best in business and at home.
Chelsea
I don’t necessarily blog as a writing outlet- I moreso blog as a style outlet. I like to show people what I wear and how I wear things and I just like the general blogging community!
Christie
I got tied up in pageviews for awhile, especially when I rebranded. I try not to look that often now
Janel C.
Thanks for sharing the many reasons why people blog – i learned a lot by reading everyone’s comments on what motivates them to blog!
casavilorainteriors
This is great, because honestly I don’t care about pageviews that much either. I started blogging in 2010 because I felt it was good for my business and now it has morphed into this outlet where I can freely express myself, my thoughts, ideas, expertise, rants, life. I just love blogging….and I don’t care if I am good at it or not. I would still do it even if no one ever reads it
Erica
Thanks for this great post! Refreshing honesty! I started out blogging as my vent for everyday life. Sometimes it’s so easy to get caught up in the numbers but I don’t think that is what is most important!
Krystal
I started blogging in 2007 as a way to keep track of my daily lists. It somehow grew into this. I love it!
Amber Killmon (@AmberSBL)
I started blogging 4 years ago, got sick of it so decided to start over. Now I’m on the pageview stalking kick.
Felicia
I blog for creativity. It is such a fun way to share creatively and to chat with others with similar interests.
April @ My Real Food Family
There are a lot of reasons that I blog. I’ve found it to be a creative outlet and well as a good use of my education and experience. It’s a lot of work but I thoroughly enjoy it and don’t consider it work.
Toni Patton
I am definitely not blogging for page views, otherwise I would be writing all about all the controversial topics out there all the time. I blog for me and because I love being able to make money writing and doing what I love.
Jenn Perry (@ThatJennPerry)
Blogging for me started as a way to document my life and share it with those who matter most. It’s grown into something bigger and I love it. Thanks for sharing your story. 🙂
Shell Feis
I blog to support my family and am so grateful that I am able to do so in order to stay home with my boys! It is something I love though so that makes it easier for sure.
Onica {MommyFactor}
It’s always nice to learn why and how people blog. I started blogging for a much different reason then I do now. It’s funny how that happens
