why do you blog?

Why do you blog?

Here lately as a blogger I’m all tied up in pageviews. Why are they going down? How can I get them up? Ugh, it’s very frustrating. Just when you think you’ve found the magic key to pageviews it changes. It does this to me all the time. I’m tired of getting all worked up about my pageviews. I should be happy with 200 per day. I’m not. I’m not because one day I had 1600.  I am, however, turning a new leaf. It doesn’t matter how many pageviews I get during the day. I will set out to write content that people want to read. Good content is more valuable then how many pageviews I get in a day. So today I vow to let go of the stress of trying to get my pageviews up and let the knowledge that I’m writing good content be my guide.

Are you blogging for pageviews or as a writing outlet?

I’m blogging because I love to write and share what I’ve learned. So the latest xyz company won’t want me. So what? I’m here to write in the comfort of my home and keep my kids clothed and fed. That’s what I’m doing too. You can do this too. How? By giving yourself permission to be who you are. You are the most valuable you that there is. And there is only one you. What makes you tick? Is it spending time with your kids? Cooking a great meal? Being there for your family? The plane would tell you to put your oxygen mask on first. You can’t help your family unless you’ve taken care of you. Do that today. Take care of you.

Let’s go back to who you used to be and blog about what’s important to normal people…not just bloggers!

What’s important to you? What do you want to write about? Who do you write for? Do you write to impress or do you write as an outlet? Do you write for yourself or do you fall into that category of trying to please others? Sometimes the ability to say no is the biggest gift you can give yourself. So say no sometimes. You need to put yourself first. You are the number one in your life.  The others will get used to your saying no and will begin to do it themselves or find another sucker. Be the best you that you can be. Be proud of who you are! I’m…uh I mean…you are not your pageviews and neither am I! Why do you blog?

I don’t blog for any other reason but to document personal experiences that I find interesting, ergo someone else might find interesting. If I one day get a following then great, I’ll know that my takes on life was of interest to people, and if not, it was cool to journal for myself.

I think it is very stressful to keep up with page views, but unfortunately so many companies are hung up on them. I hate that two months ago I tasted just about 200k umvs, and now I’m under 100k…it is such a stressful roller coaster because you don’t want to be talking to yourself either.

I try not to be hung up on numbers when it comes to blogging but you have to if you want to work with companies. But what’s important is that you enjoy what you’re blogging about.

I started as a place to keep track of my life. Since then it has taken on a life of its own, but as long as I always stay true to the reason I started, I am ok with that.

This is all so true. It’s more for me than anyone else and when I get frustrated with the roller coaster that is my pageviews, I try to remember that.

I blog because I enjoy writing about things that I love like DIY projects and crafts, beauty, fashion and recipes. However, since I have made it a part time job for myself I won’t lie and say that the money isn’t a fantastic perk but it definitely isn’t why I blog. I try not to let the pageviews take over because they definitely can.

The first year I paid no attention to numbers. Zero, zip, zilch, nada. Then I started writing sponsored posts and found out that they mean something if you want to earn something. So, I started working on them more. 🙂

If I blogged for pageviews, I would have given up years ago. 😉 I blog about my life. It started as something to try, and led into something my aunt could read to my grandma (my grandma has a difficult time hearing me on the phone.) It then evolved into a pregnancy journal and now I just keep writing about my family, my running life and whatever else strikes my fancy that day!

I started to blog because I love telling stories and I wanted to have a creative outlet…I really do not pay much attention to all the number stuff with blogs. Companies do – so I guess I am lucky that my numbers are okay

This is great, because honestly I don’t care about pageviews that much either. I started blogging in 2010 because I felt it was good for my business and now it has morphed into this outlet where I can freely express myself, my thoughts, ideas, expertise, rants, life. I just love blogging….and I don’t care if I am good at it or not. I would still do it even if no one ever reads it

Thanks for this great post! Refreshing honesty! I started out blogging as my vent for everyday life. Sometimes it’s so easy to get caught up in the numbers but I don’t think that is what is most important!
