Nautical Themes for Baby Showers

Nautical themes for babies- whether male or female- are all the rage right now, and it’s no wonder. They’re super cute, no matter how you do them, and simple. If you’re planning a shower with a nautical theme, check out these ideas to do it on a budget while still being wonderfully adorable.

Nautical Themes for Baby Showers: The Cake

Often times, the cake sets the mood for the shower and for a nautical theme party you definitely want something that will show the theme. Try a solid blue cake with a toy boat on top for an easy ocean theme, or go more elaborate and do a tiered cake with fake fish around the layers and an anchor topper. Whatever you decide, you can make the cake fun and a gift (Wilton Pirate Ship Shaped Pan).

Striped invites are always a hit or you can get these Ahoy – Nautical Fill-in Invitations (8 count).

Whether a boy or a girl, do red and white or yellow and white striped invites to make the nautical theme apparent from the beginning. You can print them out on card-stock on your computer, and place cutouts of anchors or fish around. Do something simple with the wording like “Ahoy- It’s a Boy” or “Anchor’s Away- It’s a Girl We Celebrate” to let people know the gender and that it is a baby shower.

Mason jar drinks borrow some or you can get these (we drink out of mason jars all the time!) Ball Regular Mouth Half Pint Jars with Lids and Bands, Set of 12

Make red punch and serve it in mason jars with a striped straw to add to the nautical theme. You can have it already portioned out or serve it in a punch bowl with fake fish floating in it to add to the theme.
Real fishing decorations

If you are throwing a nautical themed shower, chances are you have a fisherman or two in the midst. Ask them if you can borrow a fishing pole or two, and then use them as decorations. Fishing nets to hold baby shower gifts, Fishing poles leaned against the wall behind the food, and vases of seashells on the table all make for inexpensive and adorable decorations that add a bit of sophistication that normal baby shower decorations just don’t have.

Nautical Themes for Baby Showers: The food

Make it a seafood lunch! Mini-crab cakes, tuna salad and crackers, and even fried fish can help add to the nautical theme. Place napkins and silverware in sand pails or wired baskets. Use small cocktail sauce bowls for condiments. Use serving trays with nautical colors or pictures to hold the plates and cups, and shells, fake fish, and even fishing gear (like casting nets) to the tables as decor.

Whatever kind of shower you are throwing it’s important to personalize it to the family. A nautical theme for baby showers is a great way to do that for families on the coast or who are working in the Navy, Coast Guard, fishing industries, etc.
