Throwback to the old times

Relive your youth and talk about things you did back in the day! Remember eating cereal for breakfast and reading the cereal boxes and doing the fun puzzles on the back. Those were the days.

My kids love to eat cereal for breakfast. We usually hold off on the sugary ones for eating on the weekend. My kids love cheerios and were happily chomping away on these for breakfast this morning. I’m making cheerios bars for them for snack this afternoon. Check out my recipe and pictures below. There’s nothing better than peanut butter, oats, cheerios and chocolate chips! No high fructose corn syrup in my no bake cheerios granola bars either.

Ingredients
  1. 1/2 c honey
  2. 1/2 c brown sugar
  3. 1/2 c peanut butter
  4. 1/2 c peanuts
  5. 2 c cheerios (I used a mix of honey nut and plain)
  6. 2 c rolled oats
  7. 1/4 c chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. In a large pan cook brown sugar and honey until boiling. Stir in peanut butter and remove from heat. Add cereal, oats and peanuts and stir well. Spray 9x13 pan and pour into pan and then press down (I used saran wrap to press down). Add chocolate chips to the top and press them in. Let cool and then cut into 12 bars. Eat and enjoy.
Notes
  1. My family fought over these bars. This will be your go to recipe for granola bars!

I love that you can just use the off brand cereals to make these granola bars. Homemade is the way to go. What I’m noticing is that we are not buying as many premade processed foods. We are cooking with ingredients and bypassing the processed food aisle. It’s better for us for sure. Have you ever made granola or granola bars before? What did you put in them?

I’m a sucker for the throwback look. There’s just something nice about that glimpse back into your youth. We’ll be picking up ours if we see one. Prolly the Lucky Charms. 🙂

I used to love cereal as a kid. But now that I have eliminated processed foods, I don’t eat cereal anymore.

Now I want some Peanut Butter Puffs. I am going to make these granola bars. I don’t have a kitchen right now but I have a side burner on my outdoor grill and I can make them on that. This recipe will come in handy until I get my oven back.
