Decorating…oh but you make me smile!

canvas dry

I love the song “You make me smile.” Love that song so much. My kids run around the house singing it. My son just wrote his teacher a card and put that she makes him smile like the sun! I had to find a way to incorporate the saying into my decorating around my house. The best news is I did it with all items I already had. Back at Christmas I bought canvas from Michaels for 50% off and got a 5 pack for $19. I had painted this particular one and planned on giving it as a gift. But then I overpainted it. I liked it until I kept adding more and more paint to it. So, I put it in my closet to use later. Well Sunday I pulled it out and spray painted with the color I had. Sprayed it all over my former Christmas gift to be. I love the brown. I may have a touch too much warm earth tones in my house. LOL Then I used a simple collage program and found a background I liked. I added the words over it and printed it out.

Using white elmers glue I added the saying and glued it down.

Then I added white glue to the top and painted it completely.

Letting it air dry. It took about 24 hours to dry completely.

And the final product. I love the way it turned out and it’s a phrase that means something to my sweet family.

Completely dry and no white glue seen!

Let me know if you try it. I’d love to see the way yours turned out and what your favorite phrases are for your family! Happy crafting.
