Are You Ready for the Greatest Giveaway Ever?
As we turn the calendar from February into March, basketball fans around the country cannot wait for the two best words in the English language to be uttered.
Yes, it is that time. The time for March Madness to be unleashed.
It has been one of the wildest seasons in recent memory. Not only have traditional teams like Duke and Gonzaga been at or near the top of the national polls, up-and-coming programs like Indiana and Michigan have exploded onto the scene. Of course, these programs have been good in the past, but they have had a share or two of problems.
Which teams will be at or near the top when the pairings are announced?
Will it be Indiana, which has had a renaissance nothing short of miraculous after a few years in the wilderness? Head coach Tom Crean needed a few years to get things done once he came to the Hoosiers from Marquette University, but Indiana has been at or near No. 1 all season.
How about Duke? The team all of basketball loves to hate just had one of its top players, Ryan Kelly, return after missing time due to foot issues. While Kelly was out, the Blue Devils struggled mightily at times in losses to Miami and Virginia. With Kelly back in the lineup on Saturday, March 2, Duke scored a close victory over Miami and kept itself in contention for an Atlantic Coast Conference championship.
Or maybe it is Michigan’s year. The Wolverines have not had a lot of luck in the NCAA since the Fab Five years of 1992 and 1993, but John Beilein has a solid cast of characters in Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Glenn Robinson III. The Wolverines are in the Big Ten Conference race but will likely fall short of first place. The better the finish, however, the higher the seed come tournament time.
No doubt if you are filling out brackets and hoping for a little seed money this spring, you likely are a big fan of giveaways. Do you like giveaways? Do you love college basketball?
If you are a fan of both then we have a Car Madness Contest built just for you. You could drive to a tournament game of your choice in a brand new set of wheels. Imagine the feel of the open road as you go check out Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Park your car in a reserved spot at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Or if you have Final Four tickets, then drive down to Atlanta with dreams of basketball going through your head.
So go ahead and enter. It’s getting to be time for conference tournaments, and before long Selection Sunday is just around the corner. From there the NCAA will decide the 68 teams eligible for tournament play and send them off to various arenas through the country to whittle down the field.
In the end two teams will meet for the national title on a Monday night, hoping to be the featured team in the “One Shining Moment” montage at the end.
Your one shining moment might come if you are selected as the winner of a brand new car. We hope to see you at the tournament.
