October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. I, like most people have been touched by this disease. My grandmother, in the 1960’s, found a lump. Because she did her own self breast exams is the only reason they found it. She then had a single mastectomy. I saw nothing but grace from her as she dealt with having a missing breast for the rest of her life. My mom then had a scare when I as 18 or 19. They had to do a couple of mammograms to rule out that anything was wrong. Whew. Then I became of age to get mammograms done. My first scare, I had to have another mammogram and an ultrasound, followed by another mammogram 6 months later. Then I was finally in the clear. I am very “hyper” aware of breast cancer and will always have my yearly mammograms.
When I read about the op that was presented to me by Estroven and the Sits Girls, I was very excited to take part in it. Two of my good friends came over and we had a nice afternoon. Even though we had 8 children here running around, time spent with good friends is priceless. We sat out on my back deck, enjoyed this beautiful weather, drank our water (we are all trying to eat/drink better and get healthier) and we had a lovely afternoon. I’m never ready for my friends to leave and go home.
This is the drink we all wanted to have. But we were very good and only had water! Being 3 gals who are on a mission to get the weight off and be healthier, we felt going with water was the better choice! Eating a healthy diet is important for fighting any kind of cancer.
Every 3 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer. Please do your self exams and get your mammograms too. Or as my friend in the pic says…get your mammies grammed!
During the month of October, Estroven is providing women with the necessary tools to host a Sleep Pink-themed party on SleepPink.com. The site will allow party hosts to upload photographs of their events, and for every photo, the company will pledge $100 to benefit the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. It will also provide information to help organize the Sleep Pink parties including downloadable invitations, menopause-friendly
drink and food recipe suggestions, as well as décor and entertainment ideas.
