My kids, husband and myself are huge sweet tea drinkers. We’ve pretty much cut out sodas and drink just tea, coffee, water and milk. Our southern sweet tea gets us through the tough times. I make about a gallon a day for 5 people. Which really isn’t all that much. I make it everyday and I make it without a tea maker. It’s so simple and you can make it too without another appliance to clutter up your counter! Check out how I make my Southern Sweet Tea.
Recipe Ingredients
1 cup plus a touch extra sugar
3 tea bags
water
ice
pitcher
I add a cup of sugar (more or less to your liking) to a pot. Then add my 3 tea bags and cover with water. Boil slowly on stove. Keep an eye on it and do not leave it alone! After a few minutes of boiling I turn it off and let it steep for 10 minutes. Steep means it cooks without heat and continues to draw the tea flavor out. Add ice and water to your pitcher. Then add your tea to it and let it sit for another 10 minutes. Drink up and enjoy!
PS If you overcook your tea and leave it boiling too long it can have a bitter taste. Try adding a small pinch of baking soda to take the bitterness away.
You just made tea without a tea maker and how simple and easy was that to do? Have you tried to cut out some of the appliances you have? Do you have any tips for those of us that are too dependent on our appliances? Can you make something on the stove and get rid of another appliance?
